Streets of Encounter
Bravo! Television Premiere - 8pm et/5pm pt
Streets of Encounter features Ivaldo Bertazzo, a choreographer who works with youth from the slums of Sao Paulo. As seen in this compelling documentary, art can make a difference. Bertazzo takes the youth on a journey of discovery that goes beyond dance and becomes an exploration of themselves and their relationship to society; his aim is not necessarily to turn the kids into dancers but to give them tools for the rest of their lives. The film follows them into their neighbourhoods, shows them performing in Brazil and finally on tour in France. The film has been accepted to the International Festival of Films on Art (FIFA) this year.
